Supporting Palestinian Refugees from Gaza in Bucharest - A New Chapter in Our Aid Work at Bucharest Holistic Aid

Hello friends,

We're expanding our grassroots humanitarian programme in Bucharest - originally founded to support Ukrainian refugees - to also serve the growing Palestinian refugee community in the city. Led by congregation member Madeleine and supported by the Church of the Resurrection, our team of volunteers is now working with a community of over 150 Palestinian refugees, mostly mothers with young children, many of whom have come to Romania under heart-breaking circumstances.

These families receive limited government support and are often left navigating life in Romania, away from wider family support networks, while caring for critically ill children.

In the last two and a half years we’ve dispersed over £66,000 in grant funding to support Ukrainian families in need, but as our outreach grows, we urgently need to expand our fundraising to meet this new and pressing need within the Palestinian community.

We’re raising funds to meet urgent, practical needs in the following areas:
Day-care & Kindergarten
  • Setting up a safe, nurturing space for mothers and toddlers.
  • Hiring a local teacher and equipping the centre with educational materials.
  • Providing a small community kitchen where mothers cook on rotation.

Housing & Essentials
  • Families receive rent assistance for only 6 months. After that, many are at risk of losing their homes.
  • We’re helping cover rent and utility bills, and providing basic furnishings and bedding for families moving into empty apartments.

Translation Support
  • We’re supporting Palestinian community members who volunteer as translators in hospitals and government offices by paying them a modest stipend.

Why this matters:
  • Each EU country has accepted a quota of people from Gaza - almost all single mothers with up to 7 children, separated from their husbands, and here only because one child is critically ill and in need of medical care.

What your donation can do:
  • £10 – Educational supplies for one week at the day-care.
  • £30 – Season-appropriate clothing for a child.
  • £60 – A week’s worth of groceries for a family of 4.
  • £70 – Kitchen equipment for a rented flat.
  • £80 – One month’s utility bills for a family.
  • £350 – One month’s salary for a community translator or kindergarten teacher.
  • £400 – One month’s rent for a family of 4.

We are a small volunteer team making a direct, personal impact. Every donation, big or small, goes straight to families we know and support.

Thank you so much for helping us support some of the most vulnerable refugees in Bucharest.
