A car to get to work will change their lives

I’m trying to help a wonderful young refugee family from Afghanistan, newly settled in Melbourne restart their life. They have a very young baby and while they are safe in a small apartment they are far from public transport and really struggling financially. The dad is trying to support his family by taking on casual work as a painter but they need a reliable car. He needs it to get to paint jobs and the family needs a car to take their baby to the doctor and to hospital. They were given a very old car when they arrived here but it breaks down constantly and it’s costing them a lot to try to keep it on the road. Last week it broke down at an intersection and the three of them had to walk home in the summer heat.

Their lives have been filled with pain and horror but they are the warmest, kindest people I’ve met in a long time and they deserve a break. I’m fundraising to buy them a reliable car. It will change their lives. Every dollar donated will be given to them.

I’m also tired of buying more and more Christmas gifts for my friends and family when we all have way too much. This year I want to do something that really makes a difference instead.

I know they are just one family. I know there are many, many people we could help but I also know this gift will mean everything to them.
