The past few months, I have had the great pleasure to  coach and get to know a group of special young men.  I was asked to help a 14-15 year old soccer team out comprised of young refugee kids from Africa. They have never had a coach or any training before.  A few of my staff coaches at St. Eds and I accepted the role to coach them and provide them instruction and organization.  The passion and excitement they had each weekend to play in this 45 minute match was the pinnacle of their week.  These boys come from parts of the city that some would consider as the toughest parts of town.  Big thank you to Becky Trout from the Nehemiah Mission for organizing and coordinating transportation to an from the facility.  Without Becky's 24-7 efforts, these boys would be without their true passion, soccer.  

Throughout this last session, the boys grew as a team and have started to understand roles, responsibilities, hard work, and teamwork.  All characteristics needed for success and focus as they become young men in this foreign country that is now home.  My goal is to raises funds to help provide them more of literally everything essential for both the soccer leagues and training we will be doing as well for a healthy lifestyle.  The money wil be used for equipment, transportation, league fees, insurance, to improve facilities, proper hydration and nutrition, and more.  My company, UN1TUS, will match each dollar raised with a uniform and apparel donation to ensure they kids have proper attire for practice and games.  The goal is $2,500 but driving this to $5,000 would really push things forward for them.

These boys have big smiles, lots of passion, and huge hearts.  I want nothing but an opportunity and chance for these boys to succeed.  As many of my friends know, soccer can open up doors and provide a positive structured environment for personal growth.  Along side the soccer piece of this, we will also be striving for excellence in education, personal well-being, community, and appreciation.  The end goal is that these kids grow into fine men that one day can give back to their respective communities and families.
