A group of refugee women are walking from Sydney to Canberra to raise awareness of the flawed "Fast Track Process" that has resulted in them not receiving refugee visas. Being on temporary visas for 10 years or more has meant that they or their children cannot attend university and pursue their dreams. They have been paying taxes and have been of good standing in the community in Australia, yet their future is uncertain. They haven't been able to reunite with their immediate family for over a decade.
The ALP National Platform stated in 2021: "The existing fast track assessment process does not provide a fair, thorough and robust assessment process for persons seeking asylum. Labor will abolish this fast track assessment process".
The refugee women walking from Sydney to Canberra are appealing to the Albanese Labor Government to implement their promise and to give a fair refugee application process for the 10,000 refugees who have been in limbo for over 10 years.
