I am a postgraduate student fundraising for an online masters scholarship for a refugee. The scolarhsip will be named afterRefaat Al-Areer, a prominent professor and writer who tragically lost his life in an airstrike at the end of 2023. His poignant last poem, "If I Should Die," has resonated deeply with people around the world.

Overview

The Refaat Al-Areer Memorial Scholarship is a collaborative initiative between activist groups, community groups, and individual donations, designed to provide vital educational opportunities to students displaced by the ongoing humanitarian crisis. This scholarship offers a fully funded online master's program at Brunel University, enabling students to pursue their academic ambitions despite the challenges they face.

Background

Since October 2023, the region has witnessed the displacement of hundreds of thousands of individuals, with all universities rendered inoperable and higher education suspended across the region. In response to this crisis, I aim for us all to come together to create a pathway for a refugee to secure a meaningful academic future.

Scholarship

The scholarship encompasses:
