“When We Met Among the Rubble

In the chaos of war and the sound of explosions, no one expected two hearts to beat with love amid the ashes. Reem, a girl who carried dreams as vast as the sky in her heart, was studying literature and writing poems in the pages of her university notebooks. But the war left her with nothing but memories. She lost her home, and her future was lost between bombings and fire, forcing her into the streets that had come to resemble a cold bed on nights without shelter.

As for Sakher, he was a man who understood the meaning of hard work. He ran a small shop that supported his family and dreamed of growing his business. But bombs do not distinguish between dreams and destruction. His shop was destroyed, his livelihood scattered, and he was left with a bag full of old papers and new pain.

They met one winter morning among the ruins of an abandoned library. Reeem m was looking for remnants of books, while Sakher searched for a piece of wood to feed his small fire. Their eyes met, and a smile passed between fatigue and fear. It didn’t take much — broken souls know how to recognize one another.

Their story began in silence, interrupted by a few words about pain, the past, and the things that no longer existed. Each became a home for the other.Reem started writing again, this time about hope — about Sakher, who, despite his name meaning “rock,” carried enough tenderness to mend her heart.

Sakher, in turn, found in reem a reason to seek new work, a life starting from zero — or perhaps below it. They walked together, owning nothing but their hearts and a little hope. But that was enough.

The war stole much from them, yet it also brought together two hearts that may never have met otherwise. Amid the destruction, there was a seed of life in their story — and perhaps, the beginning of something new in a world that breathes from between the rubble.

Please help Reem and Sakher start a new life. Support them in rebuilding their future, continuing their education outside Gaza, and getting evacuated from Gaza.
