We had the most devastating news on the 22nd of August, that our son Reece at just 14 years old had suffered a spinal stroke, what was just a normal family day out at bowling ended up being the worst day of our lives.

He has been in Birmingham Children’s Hospital ever since.

After multiple tests and MRI scans, we were told that he was paralysed from the chest down and would need intense rehabilitation.

This has come as a shock to us, our lad who has been in the army during school, had intentions of going into the army as a profession after his final year of school this academic year, him being extremely fit, and healthy; to becoming such a vulnerable young man who may never walk again unaided.

Fortunately, we have been offered treatment at the best hospital in the country Stoke Mandeville Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire on the 14th of October which we are beyond grateful for but with this came the news that they will only provide a bed for one parent.

As a strong knit family we all need to be together to get through this terrible time. NHS won’t help with accommodation for us all down Aylesbury as they have been whilst at Birmingham.

This is heartbreaking for us all but especially Reece who needs and wants both parents plus his siblings alongside him for moral support and his mental health, after going through such a life changing experience.

There are Air bnbs and hotels near by which are only a 2 minute walk from the hospital which will enable us to all to be together, and live a possibly normal as can be life, while Reece undergoes all his rehabilitation which will give him the best chance possible of ever walking again but it comes at a cost of £2,000.00 a month that financially we can’t afford.

He has got to have 3 months of rehabilitation; however, it will still be a much longer process for Reece.

We are trying to raise £6,000.00 so we can be there to give our love and support to our son on this long but hopefully successful journey to enable him to have some kind of normality back in his very young life.
