Hello my name is Jessica and I am a mobile swim teacher and aerial yoga teacher in San Diego. I have been working with children professionally since 2012, where I developed a passion for helping children build self confidence through inclusion and acceptance all through play based learning. I have a background in ABA therapy as a Registered Behavior Technician and I have been teaching Swim lessons for 11 years.

This past spring, I was trained in Adaptive Swim by Danielle Jacobson. She opened my eyes to teaching swim in a way that I had never seen but had my own idea of. I realized how extremely beneficial these lessons turned out to be to not only to children with special needs, but all children!

With the combination of all my passions, I thought it would be a great idea to raise money to offer these adaptive swim lessons to families in San Diego, who have a child/children on the spectrum with higher support needs, at NO cost to the families. My overall goal is to reduce the drowning rate of children, but specifically those with autism.

THAT IS WHERE LOVELY PEOPLE SUCH AS YOURSELF COME IN.

Did you know its 160x more likely for a child with autism to drown than someone who is neurotypical? Unfortunately, around 50% of children with autism wander/elope, and are drawn to water.

While this is the unfortunate truth. There are many physical benefits to swimming for those on the spectrum!

-Swimming engages many muscles that improves strength, motor skills, coordination, and endurance.
-The water offers sensory input that can be calming and regulating to those with sensory sensitivities.
-Swimming helps reduce stress and anxieties and increase breathing strategies which can lead to better focusing.
-Swimming reduces hyper activity due to the type of energy needed to swim.
-Learning a new water skill builds self esteem and self confidence which can develop into increasing social interaction and communication in the pool.
-Being underwater provides alone time when needed.
-Swimming requires repetitive movements that may self sooth those on the spectrum.
-Swimming is a shared interest for many people.

I am accepting donations to provide these adaptive swim lessons to not only give the gift of learning how to be water safe, but to awaken all the benefits the water has to offer to those on the spectrum as well.

No donation is too small, as it can go towards someone who needs a little help.

$50 donation = One 30 minute lesson.

If you or someone you know has higher supporting needs autism, and are interested in being considered for these lessons, please reach out via email or Instagram @Justkeepswimmingwithjessica
