Help me continue to help house homeless!

Hi! My name is Roxy.
I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and later attended the University of Maryland, College Park where I also joined the phenomenal organization of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. As a student on the pre-law and political science track, my dream was to become an attorney, and be knowledgeable about the systems and policies that often impacted the lives of those I loved back in Baltimore. One of those loved ones is my father. He was raised in the foster care system. He went from house to house before eventually aging out of the system. The impacts of his upbringing continue to affect him throughout his life and ultimately, the lives of his children.

What many don't know is when foster care children age out of the system, 20% become homeless right after they turn 18. Sadly, this demographic is not the only vulnerable population that struggles with housing instability. Statistics show that 98% of Veterans experience homelessness in their lifetime, with up to 30% having chronic patterns of homelessness. Of the homeless in America, 25% have some sort of mental health diagnosis as opposed to 6% for the general population.

We have a serious problem; housing insecurity is affecting our most vulnerable population of society.
With this knowledge, a House with Heart Homes was born and while I didn't become an attorney, I found another way to fulfill my mission in life and honor my dad and his experience.
We are a housing resource for the community by providing a share living model to create safe, clean, drug free homes for our guests.
Most of the people we house are:
Veterans
Aged Out Foster Care
Seniors
Domestic Violence Survivors
Those with mental health challenges
All who receive SSI, SSDI and SSA benefits as well as community agency funds and private pay for housing.

A House with Heart Homes has opened a location in South Florida, in the Fort Lauderdale area and looking for your continued support.

We are currently raising funds so that we can provide a better experience for the guests of this home.

The funds will be used to:
Provide those "wish list" items for our guests. Items like weights for home workouts, painting kits for art crafts and funds towards community dinners.
Provide Welcome Baskets to any new guests with hygiene products, towels & wash cloths.
Offer activities like game night & Movie night.
Funding for house dinners- giving the guests an opportunity to cook dinner together and share a healthy meal as a community.
For Yoga and meditation classes- to help those processing trauma and improve coping techniques
Clothes, coat, socks, etc. when the guests come with limited belongings, when possible, we purchase for them to help out.

This work is not easy and requires a lot of love for the people we serve and passion for ending homelessness. As a single mother, I have financially and emotionally invested personally but I cannot do this alone. I would love if you could cheer us on by sharing us on social media, providing a positive message for our new guests and making a small contribution to our mission.
Any amount helps!

With much love & gratitude,

Roxy & Ruby
