Hi, many of you who know me will know my daughter Beth, who attends a vocational organisation called Forever Savvy. Unfortunately one of the centres she attends was vandalised recently. Help Adults with Learning Disabilities Rebuild Creative Savvy

Six weeks ago, our Creative Savvy Centre in Bagworth was vandalised.

After 11 years of creating a place where adults with learning disabilities could learn, grow, develop practical skills and feel part of a community, we have had to leave our home and start again at Little Markfield Farm.

We are incredibly grateful to have a new site from which to continue our work.

However, there is one challenge.

Right now, our new home is an empty field.

We are raising funds to help turn that field into a safe, accessible and fully functioning Creative Savvy Centre where adults with learning disabilities can continue to learn, achieve and thrive.

What is Creative Savvy?

Creative Savvy is a hands-on learning environment where adults with learning disabilities build confidence, independence and practical life skills through purposeful activity.

For the people we support, this means much more than simply keeping busy.

It means learning land-based skills, gardening, growing food, maintaining outdoor spaces, working with wood, creating projects from pallets and reclaimed materials, helping on the farm and contributing to the community.

Every activity has a purpose.

Through these experiences people develop confidence, communication skills, friendships and a sense of achievement. They learn responsibility, teamwork and practical skills that can help prepare them for volunteering, employment and greater independence.

Most importantly, it gives people the opportunity to say:

"I did that."

Why We Need Your Help

For over 11 years, Creative Savvy provided a welcoming environment where people could learn new skills, build friendships and take pride in their achievements.

What happened was about more than damage to a building.

Some of the adults with learning disabilities we support were subjected to mocking and abusive behaviour during the incidents. For people who had worked hard to build confidence, independence and self-belief, this was deeply upsetting.

Creative Savvy has always been a place where people feel safe, valued and accepted for who they are. Seeing that environment targeted affected not only the centre itself, but also many of the people who considered it their community and safe place.

That is why rebuilding Creative Savvy is about more than replacing what was lost. It is about restoring a place where people can continue to learn, grow, make friends, develop skills and feel respected and included.

After the vandalism, we were faced with the heartbreaking reality that we could no longer continue at our Bagworth site.

We have now moved to Little Markfield Farm and are determined to rebuild.

But everything needs creating again.

The workshop space, outdoor learning areas, equipment, tools, storage, materials and infrastructure that made Creative Savvy possible have all been left behind.

Opportunity to discover what they are capable of.

But we still have our people.

We still have our purpose.

And we still believe in what adults with learning disabilities can achieve when they are given the opportunity to learn, contribute and belong.
