This year's National Recovery Month (held every September with events across the nation) has the theme of
"Recovery is for every individual, family, and community."
Perhaps more so than any other community in the United States of America, the beautiful community of Kensington has been decimated for decades by racist and classist drug policy. The community-level harms of a violent and chaotic open-air drug market, flagrant open-air drug use, exploitation from outside forces, and the many associated social consequences of addiction have long been felt in Kensington. This was, however, worsened tenfold by the intersection of the fentanyl crisis, COVID, and civil unrest.
And sadly, there is no help on the way - local, state and federal government have failed to solve the mounting humanitarian crisis in Kensington. Community-level recovery is so desperately needed in Kensington, but no cavalry of resources or help is on the way.
To that end and in the spirit of recovery being for EVERYONE, poor communities like Kensington too!,
We are holding a Recovery for the Community of Kensington fundraiser this annual National Recovery Month, with all funds raised going to the Harrowgate Civic Association to continue and hopefully grow its amazing efforts to bring safety, sanitation, sunshine, and the quality of life we would all want for our families, to its own families and neighborhood.
Nobody knows the beauty of recovery like those of us who have found it. Let's do our part to support Kensington in finding the community recovery it so very much needs and deserves as well. <3
