Help to Record Freddie Simpson
Donation protected
Freddie is 13 and discovered his love for singing at 8. We would like your help to raise money for Freddie to be professionally recorded. This is his dream and we also feel his singing talent should be heard far and wide.
We’ve successfully privately funded and released four songs. With recording and filming being an expensive process, we’re now asking for your help to support the recording of more music. All of these songs are available on his YouTube channel, where you can subscribe to stay updated.
Here is Freddie singing the well-loved Christmas carol O Holy Night which has had 19k views:
You might recognise him as a finalist in last year’s televised BBC Young Chorister of the Year where professional tenor and judge Wynne Evans said he had a "voice that touches the heart". Laura Wright, who was moved emotionally by his singing, commented on "the control, quality, beauty and purity of his voice and the love of singing that he conveyed" and Ken Burton remarked on his "spot on intonation, perfect tuning and masterful performance". Since then we've been overwhelmed with comments praising the tone and quality of his voice, as well as acknowledging the emotional impact his singing has on listeners. Freddie started his singing journey at St Thomas-on-the-Bourne, Farnham where he was Deputy Head Chorister of the boys' choir.
Your generous donations will fund high quality recordings and videos of Freddie singing with professional musicians from well-known choirs and orchestras. Directed by Robert Lewis, who has been Freddie's singing teacher from the age of 8, we plan to share these recordings on Freddie's YouTube Channel for you all to enjoy.
We have an experienced project team in place who are:
Robert Lewis – Executive Producer and Music Director
Robert is a conductor, performer and educator. He began his musical training as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral, later winning a choral scholarship to New College, Oxford where he read Music. Robert specialises in developing choirs and voices of all ages and has built a reputation for performance excellence in both the choral and orchestral fields.
Robert prepared Freddie for his entry to BBC Young Chorister of the Year and is well known for developing the solo voice. As well as Freddie he has coached two other BBC Young Chorister of the Year finalists in the last four years; Cai Thomas and Luca Brugnoli who have both gone on to achieve considerable acclaim. As a conductor Robert has made numerous high quality and well regarded recordings and his experience from the treble albums of Cai Thomas’s Seren (2020) and Luca Brugnoli’s Rise Up (2023) means we are in very capable hands.
Tom Mungall – Producer, Sound and Video Engineer
Tom is an award-winning sound and video engineer and a classically trained musician. With a first-class honours degree from the distinguished Tonmeister course at Surrey University, as well as the honour of ‘Tonmeister of the Year’, Tom has had the privilege of working with some of the most renowned names in the music industry including Ariana Grande, Keaton Henson and VOCES8. He specialises primarily in live session audio recordings with video both on location and in studio and Tom has already produced four highly professional recordings of Freddie.
Tom also has very relevant experience of working with boy treble voices having recently engineered and produced Malakai’s latest two singles (Once in Royal David’s City and Amazing Grace) for Decca and Classic FM.
There are associated risks and challenges with recording a solo treble but Freddie has already made some professional recordings so is aware of the long days and hard work involved. The main risk lies in the voice itself but our team have tried and tested experience of producing excellent recordings of the boy treble voice. The repertoire will be carefully chosen. Each recording session will be well managed with the necessary preparation and careful pacing on the day to ensure Freddie stays relaxed and in good voice throughout. Freddie’s voice will break at some point which is why it is important we start the recording process as soon as possible.
We acknowledge that you may not be able to contribute financially. However, you can still greatly support us by sharing the campaign within your networks, on social media, or by word of mouth. Additionally, please consider subscribing to Freddie’s YouTube Channel.
Should you be able to contribute £25 or more you will join Freddie’s mailing list for early release information.
We are very grateful for every donation, no matter its size.
Thank you for your generous support and helping us to make Freddie’s singing aspirations a reality!
