Reconnecting with My Roots: A Personal Pilgrimage to Senegal
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Layla. For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of visiting Senegal—the birthplace of my father and a place deeply tied to my identity. This isn’t just a trip; it’s a personal pilgrimage to reconnect with my roots, honour my late father, and find healing in a journey I’ve carried in my heart for many years.
Why This Pilgrimage Matters:
When I was five, my parents separated, and I lost regular contact with my father. Tragically, he passed away when I was ten, before we had the chance to reunite, despite his plans to visit us that same year. I haven’t been to Senegal since I was two years old, and this journey represents an opportunity to rediscover a part of myself and honour his memory.
This pilgrimage is about healing, reflection, and embracing the culture that has always been part of me from afar. It’s my way of reconnecting with the land and family I’ve longed to know.
What Your Support Will Fund:
I’m seeking to raise £2,500 to cover:
Travel Expenses: Flights and transportation in Senegal.
Accommodation: A safe and comfortable place to stay.
Daily Expenses: Meals and cultural experiences to fully immerse myself in this journey.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will bring me closer to this dream. Sharing this campaign with others who might resonate with my story would also mean the world to me.
Why Your Support Means So Much:
This journey is about more than travel—it’s about healing, honouring my father, and finding connection to a heritage I’m proud to carry. Your kindness and support will enable me to walk the paths my father once walked and embrace the culture that shaped him—and, in turn, me.
Closing:
Thank you for considering supporting this deeply personal journey. Your generosity means more than words can express.
With gratitude,
Layla
