Allow me to start off by saying thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hello, my name is Tianna Grant and I’m organizing this GoFundMe to support my brother, Darrien Grant, and our family during an incredibly difficult time due to his life-altering spinal cord injury. Darrien Grant is a beloved son, brother, nephew, grandchild, uncle, and most importantly, a friend. Darrien attended school at City of Honors in Inglewood, CA, where he was going into his senior year. He was a passionate, dedicated football player who was pronounced Ocean League 1st Team Defensive Player from Inglewood High School, which inspired his dreams to shoot for a D1 college.

On Sunday, July 7th, 2024, Darrien Grant and a few others (his friends) returned home from a bonfire at Dockweiler Beach around 10-10:30 pm, not knowing that this seemingly ordinary night would change the course of our lives forever. Before Darrien could enter into his parking structure, shots were fired. Unfortunately, Darrien was the only one to be injured in this tragic moment. He was urgently rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery, where we were told that Darrien suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including his back, diaphragm/lungs, legs, and neck, which injured his C3/C4 spinal cord, causing Darrien to be paralyzed from the neck down. My brother was in acute intensive care for 6 weeks, where we were initially told that due to his severe injury, he would never be able to breathe and walk on his own again. These were the darkest 6 weeks of our lives. However, Darrien, being the fighter he is, fought hard to adapt to how things were going to be but also fought to breathe again and practice strengthening his diaphragm.

On August 23rd, 2024, Darrien was released out of ICU to rehabilitation, where he tried to regain some sensation and movement in his arms and legs for about 4 months, which we were very blessed for. But we know that it’s a very long road ahead and it's not easy! Even though he is slowly making progress, the only thing we can do is continue to pray for his strength to keep fighting. This rehabilitation journey will be long and hard, as the doctors said this is a marathon, not a sprint. You lay there, you stay there! But Darrien, he is the most courageous human who is fighting hard despite still struggling mentally with this injury.

This kid is the most generous and kindest person we know with the biggest smile that can brighten up a room. As we are feeling completely helpless, I decided to start this GoFundMe to raise funds to help him through this process for whatever is needed and/or wanted! My brother did not deserve any of this, and with that being said, any support in sharing this cause, prayers, and financial donations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
