For the past year, our family has faced the uncertainty and hardships of homelessness. We moved from motel to motel, doing everything we could to stay together, meet our basic needs to exist, and keep hope alive. The experience was emotionally, physically, and financially exhausting, but we remained determined to rebuild our lives.
After a year without permanent housing, we were finally able to secure a place to live. We paid the apartments security deposit and first month’s rent and moved in on August 19, 2026. We also paid September’s prorated rent on Sept 1st.
Having a safe place to live has been an incredible blessing and the fresh start our family desperately needed. Our oldest is autistic, but the instability has taken a serious toll on all of us, we worked hard to support one another and refused to let it tear our family apart.
Unfortunately, on September 8, 2026, I unexpectedly lost my job.
Because my family depends on my income, this sudden loss has created an urgent financial crisis. We are currently struggling to afford groceries, drinking water, gas for getting our children to and from school, and other essential day to day expenses while I search for new employment. I have filed for unemployment benefits and have applied for food assistance, but both applications are still pending.
We are a loving family, my spouse and I have been together since 2007, we have two children—our oldest is 14 and our youngest is 8. Throughout this difficult year, we worked extremely hard to protect our children from the full weight of our circumstances. Now, after everything we have endured thus far, we are still doing everything possible to remain in our new place and avoid returning to homelessness. This would literally tear our family apart!
We are trying to raise funds to cover immediate household expenses while I look for work and our assistance applications are being processed.
Donations will help with:
• Rent and Utilities
• Groceries, drinking water, and household necessities such as cleaning supplies, and towards getting replacement furniture just to suffice until we are in a much better position to purchase better
• Transportation and job-search expenses
• Kids Medical and Dental costs that recently incurred
This fundraiser is not completely about starting over from nothing. We have already taken the difficult steps to secure an apartment and we’ve moved in with what we were able to keep on hand this past year, we lost everything we had in storage because the rent for it was becoming too hard to upkeep on top of the weekly increasing expense of a motel, it was too much to maintain both expenses. We chose to continue keeping the kids safe in the motels and let the storage go as we did not know how long our situation was going to continue. Yes, we tried every avenue the county supposedly has in place to help those in our situation but, LA County, IYKYK.
Kindly, we are asking for temporary support, not a helping hand but temporary assistance in order to protect the initial stability we worked so hard to achieve.
Having a home means more than just having a roof over our heads. It gives our family a piece of mind knowing it’s a safe place to rest, prepare meals, and begin healing together. Most importantly, it allows us to focus on finding work, supporting our children, and rebuilding towards our future instead of worrying about where we will sleep next or eat our next meal.
Please know we are not asking for a hand out. This is very hard to admit that I am unable to make this happen independently and knowing I need a village, a community is hard but opening up, becoming venerable is the hardest. So for my family I am swallowing my pride and admitting I need help please. We are needing assistance with remaining housed, working towards regaining financial stability, and continue moving forward.
Every donation, no matter the amount, all donations are greatly appreciated , it will help keep our family safe and secure during this difficult transition.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing our GoFundMe with your friends, family, coworkers, and community. A share could help us reach someone who is able and chooses to make a difference for our family.
Thank you for reading our story and for supporting us during this uncomfortably challenging time.
We are deeply grateful for every each and every one of you whether you donated, shared, prayed, or sent a kind word.
Sincerely Always,
Tina and Family
