Help the Lake McConaughy Community Recover After the Wildfire
In a matter of hours, lives were turned upside down near Lake McConaughy, Nebraska. Families who had built their homes, memories, and livelihoods in this community suddenly faced evacuation, loss, and uncertainty as wildfire swept through the area. Many residents lost property, personal belongings, and the sense of security that comes from having a place to call home.
Recent news reports describe the wildfire—often referred to as the Morrill County fire—as a fast-moving blaze that spread across western Nebraska, fueled by powerful winds and extremely dry conditions. The fire burned across multiple counties including Morrill, Garden, Arthur, and Keith counties, forcing evacuations around Lake McConaughy and surrounding communities. Thousands of acres were affected, structures were lost, and tragically, a life was taken during the disaster.
Behind every headline are real people: families who fled with only what they could carry, neighbors helping neighbors, and a community now facing the difficult task of rebuilding.
This fundraiser has been created to support those who lost property and belongings in the fire, as well as the volunteer fire departments and first responders who worked around the clock to protect the community. Many of these firefighters are volunteers—local residents who dropped everything to fight the fire, protect homes, and help evacuate families in danger.
How funds will be used:
• Direct support for families and individuals who lost homes, property, or belongings in the fire
• Immediate recovery assistance such as temporary housing, basic necessities, and rebuilding support
• Assistance for local volunteer fire departments and first responders for equipment, supplies, and recovery costs following the response
Transparency and community support are important to us. Funds will be distributed to impacted families and local emergency responders based on verified need, working with community members and local officials to ensure the donations help those most affected.
This disaster has shaken our community, but it has also shown the strength of people coming together to help one another. Every donation—no matter the size—will help families begin to rebuild and will support the firefighters and first responders who risked their lives to protect others.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser. Spreading the word can make an enormous difference.
Together, we can help the Lake McConaughy community recover and rebuild.
