Rebuilding Hope: Mom's Fire Recovery

On April 29th, my mom experienced a house fire and sustained extensive damage and lost all of its contents to fire or smoke damage. Her car was also lost to the fire. She and her dog Sammy were home at the time the fire broke out, but were able to get out in time and were physically unharmed. Her house and car can be replaced, but the loss of so much and the physical representation of a life worth of memories is devastating. It’s been a full two weeks of getting necessities together and will be a long journey to rebuild, but if you know my mom, you know that she is resilient beyond the level to which anyone should have to be and that she will continue to put one foot in front of the other.

My mom worked so hard over the years to ensure my brother and I had a roof over our heads, many times working two jobs to ensure that we could stay in our home. So, seeing her lose her home has been particularly challenging.
