Rebuilding Hope in Happy Grove — Hurricane Melissa Relief
0% complete
$5,850 raised of $5.5K
35 donations
My name is Alcia Thompson, and I’m from Happy Grove, New Market, St. Elizabeth — a small, close-knit community in Jamaica where everyone knows each other like family.
Our home has always been a place of laughter, shared meals, and unity. But today, our community is barely recognizable. Hurricane Melissa tore through Happy Grove, leaving behind devastation that words can hardly describe. About 95% of the homes have been damaged, and many families have lost everything — roofs, furniture, food, clothing, and even access to clean water.
As I write this, I’m heartbroken, but I refuse to lose faith. I’m starting this GoFundMe not for myself, but for the people who built me — my neighbors, my elders, the children who no longer have a safe place to sleep.
The funds raised will go directly toward buying emergency supplies such as tarpaulins, food, clean water, and basic household items. Every donation, no matter how small, will help bring relief to the families of Happy Grove as we begin to rebuild — one home, one heart, one hope at a time.
Our community may be broken right now, but our spirit is not. With your help, we can restore what was lost and remind our people that they are not forgotten.
I will be travelling to Jamaica in the next couple of weeks to make sure the supplies reach the Happy Grove area. The Supply will be distributed to the people of the community and the surrounding areas.
Thank you for standing with Happy Grove.
Please share this campaign widely — together, we can bring hope back home.
