✡️ Rebuilding Hope for the Segev Family of Be’eri
On October 7, the Segev Family’s life changed forever. Their home in Kibbutz Be’eri was destroyed during the brutal Hamas attack.
When I visited Israel recently, I walked with them through the ruins of their home. Their story of survival and resilience deeply touched my heart.
Their Story:
For Sharon and Doron Segev and their three children - Maayan (17), Gaya (15), and Haleli (13) - October 7 began as a quiet Shabbat morning. Within hours, their world was engulfed in terror.
- As fire spread, the family huddled in their safe room, suffocating as smoke filled the shelter.
- Terrorists tried to blast open the window and even forced a rifle through the opening.
- Sharon whispered goodbyes to her daughters, believing they would not survive.
- In an act of extraordinary courage, 17-year-old Maayan jumped from the shelter window while terrorists lingered nearby. Hiding in the bushes, he eventually reached Israeli soldiers - and led them back to rescue his family.
- When Sharon saw him again, she cried: “That’s my son!” - words she thought she’d never say again.
By then, their home was gone - looted, burned, and unrecognizable. Sharon later stood in the ashes and said: “This was my kitchen, this was our living room. I can’t recognize my home anymore.”
Today, the Segevs live in temporary housing with nothing of what they once had. Their children ask daily: “Where will home be?” Sharon answers with courage: “We will rebuild. Be’eri was, and will always be, our only home.”
