Rebuilding Hope for Camp Mystic Girls

Camp Mystic for Girl is a girls camp in Texas, that was devastated by the flooding in the Hill Country on July 4, 2025. Dr. Carlson was lucky enough to spend 15 summers in this beautiful, encouraging, and loving camp.

Tucked away from the noise of the big cities, we learned to grow, pray, sing, compete, cheer, and come back to each other and ourselves at the end of each day. We joked about Mystic being Heaven on earth, and yes, the scenery was something beautiful, but Heaven is really the way we learned to love ourselves, each other, and God. We learned to not put expectations or each other and ourselves, and followed the motto: Be Ye Kind, One To Another.

The results of this flood are going to be far reaching, and I’m not sure we will know the effects for years. For the youngest girls, they faced tremendous fear, trauma, and a loss of innocence. Not only did they lose friends to the flood, they lost the experience with their friends they had looked forward to all year.

Mighty Oaks Counseling, PLLC is raising money to purchase Patrice Karst’s book “The Invisible String” and green yarn. This book details how we are all connected by our hearts and an invisible string. It helps children process separation, loss, and grief. Our hope is to get a book to every child that was on the flats during the flood. For those lives lost, we’d love to get this book to their sibling(s).

These books will be delivered to the Mighty Oaks office in Plano and then distributed to our Mystic families. Care packages will be packed on July 18, and we’d love to place these items in those packages. Thank you for helping our Mystic family process this unspeakable tragedy.
