I have not imagined myself in this situation, but the unaffordable costs and the ongoing war forced me to do so.

My beloved daughter Lara, just turned 3 years old 1 week ago. Even Though I was smiling to her face, my heart was burning into ashes, I couldn't tell her I will see you soon or that everything will be okay. She is now in Gaza terrified from the death she is seeing all over the place along with my wife Safaa, other daughter Elina and my mother Halima living inhumane conditions fearing death every moment.

My name is Ghassan Alkahlout, a 32 years old father. I left my wife and daughters to study in the UK after being selected for the Chevening scholarship. I sacrificed one year of my life with my family, to build a better future for them. Now I am afraid not to see them again.

Separated by big distances and tough situations, I ache for the safety of my loved ones. My home, once full of love, is now ruined. My wife, Safaa Shamali, daughters Lara and Elina, and my elderly, ailing mother, Halima Alkahlout, struggle with basic needs in makeshift tents, haunted by fear.
