In October 2025, Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica with harsh winds and rain that destroyed and flooded many homes. Like many families across the island, my grandma's home was destroyed. Her home is where many of my family members created their special memories and relive those moments whenever we get together. Seeing the devastation and hopelessness from my grandma truly hurts. Especially when other members of the family have their hands tied because they are also in the same situation trying to rebuild their homes.

At the age of 78 rebuilding is not something she can take on by herself. My family and I are truly grateful that she is safe but the damages to her home has been overwhelming for both her and our family.

My grandma Cindy is the heart and glue of our family. Every time we travel to Jamaica, we don’t book to stay at fancy resorts. We choose the best place to stay which is of course grandma's house.

This home is where me and my cousins would rush outside to play. I remember learning how to play cricket for the very first time. We would play dominoes and ludi which brought tons of laughter and fun. This was our second home, where the entire family gathered around and ate grandma’s home cooked meals, share stories and love.

So we are reaching out to the community and asking for support to help rebuild my grandma’s home. Our main goal is to be able to restore the house to the best of our abilities to ensure her safety and stability. Any contribution, no matter the size will make a meaningful difference.
