We are Kelly and Allie, and here's our story.
As Hurricane Harvey's dust settles and relief efforts are in full force, one small Texas town - Bayside, Texas - feels like they may have been forgotten. They experienced complete devastation, as hundreds of people are left homeless with only the clothes on their back. Groups of people with big hearts and generosity from nearby cities - Corpus Christi and Refugio to name a couple - have jumped in their trucks and headed to Bayside to help, despite how difficult it is to enter the small town due to downed power lines, debris, and flooding.
One of the residents who lost everything is an important asset to the town of Bayside, as he is one of the town's builders. Before the hurricane, Marcus Waller spent his days remodeling, fixing, and putting additions on other residents' houses. Unfortunately, Marcus, his wife, and his five kids lost everything in the hurricane. He is no stranger to tragedy, as his dad and grandmother were killed in a horrible car accident only a few months before Hurricane Harvey took his house. Only months prior to the car accident, his brother lost his life at the hands of unnecessary violence.
To rebuild Bayside, we have to start by rebuilding Marcus's house. The faster we get his life rebuilt, the faster the entire town of Bayside gets rebuilt. The funds we raise will be split between efforts to help the majority senior-citizen population of Bayside clean up the devastation, as well as getting Marcus back on his feet so he can go back to building! (side note: the day after the hurricane, Marcus spent hours cooking all of his food to deliver hot meals to other residents!)
This is a very personal fundraiser for us, as we have family in this town that who is trying to rebuild without power or running water, and it could be as long as months before power is restored. We will use raised funds for supplies and labor to not only rebuild, but clear debris so rebuilding can begin. While we are supportive and grateful for everything organizations like the Red Cross accomplish, will be handing over 100% of the funds directly to the Bayside residents for rebuilding purposes. Let's get them up and running as soon as possible!
