Hello, my name is Michael.
I live in London, Ontario Canada, but my entire family is in Jamaica. Recently, I received heartbreaking news — the hurricane almost completely destroyed my family’s home in Montego Bay.
I haven’t been able to reach them yet. I don’t know if they’re safe, how they’re holding up, or if they have somewhere to stay. From what I’ve heard, that area was hit hard — no running water, no electricity, and no phone service. The silence has been unbearable.
My parents, my brothers and sisters (both older and younger), in-laws, nieces, and nephews all lived together in one house — a close, loving family that did everything together. To think of them now without adequet shelter, food, or even the basics they need to survive breaks my heart.
I’m starting this GoFundMe in hopes of raising funds to help them as soon as I can make contact. I know they’ll need food, clothing, hygiene items, and eventually, materials to rebuild their home. Even a little will go such a long way right now.
It’s hard asking for help — especially when so many of us are struggling just to get by — but I feel so helpless being so far away. If you’re able to donate, please know that every bit truly matters. And if you can’t give, please share this page and keep my family, and everyone affected by Hurricane Melissa, in your thoughts and prayers.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping in any way you can.
— Michael
