Help Us Start Over After Unsafe Housing, Slab Leaks, and a Collapsed Ceiling

My name is Ericia, and I am a single mother doing everything I can to provide a safe, stable home for my daughter. Over the past few months, our lives have been turned upside down by two separate housing disasters caused by negligent landlords — and now we urgently need help to move into a safe place.

What Happened at Our Previous Apartment

At my old apartment, the ceiling suddenly collapsed, flooding our home and destroying many of our belongings. I reported everything immediately and documented the damages. Instead of helping, the management issued a 30-day lease termination just three days after the collapse. They even attempted to evict me, despite the fact that the damage was not my fault.

I took the situation to court, and on October 17th, the Judge ruled in my favor and awarded me monetary damages for the losses we suffered.

But to this day, the landlord has refused to pay the court-ordered judgment.

Then Things Got Worse

I moved to a new apartment, hoping for a fresh start. But shortly after moving in, I learned that the new apartment complex had been purchased by the same company that owned the old apartment — the same landlord who I had just won a case against.

Not long after, the pipes burst and slab leaks began, causing water to come up from the ground, soaking into the carpet, and spreading through the walls. Our belongings were damaged again. Contractors cut into multiple walls, but the underlying damage was never properly repaired.

We have been living in unsafe, unstable conditions with constant stress, uncertainty, and financial strain. I have tried to handle everything legally and responsibly, but I am exhausted and simply trying to protect my daughter.

Why I’m Asking for Help

We need to relocate immediately to a safe, healthy home.

I am raising funds to help cover:

• Moving expenses

• A security deposit and first month’s rent

• Replacing belongings damaged by water and mold

• Emergency living costs

• Transportation and storage expenses, if needed

I am a hard-working mother and a business owner trying to rebuild my life, but this situation has taken a toll emotionally and financially. I have done everything the right way — documented everything, gone to court, won my case — but I still have not received the judgment owed to me, and the unsafe conditions continued once the landlord acquired my new apartment complex.

I am simply asking for support so my daughter and I can have a fresh start in a safe place where we can finally breathe again.
