Just imagine your parents or family losing everything they have spent their entire life building...

The memories, heirlooms, childhood recollections, the lot...

Sadly this is the reality one of my best friends' (Simon Rouse's) in-laws whom have just experienced exactly this. After a rogue fire broke out in their family home whilst they were travelling abroad, they have returned and as you could only imagine, have been left devastated.

Thankfully their son and girlfriend, who were actually asleep in the house at the time, were woken by the screaming sirens of the fire engines and managed to jump from a bedroom window to escape without injury. It could have been fatal..

Even sadder, and to only make matters worse, the property was unfortunately not covered by insurance and thus they have lost everything with next to no means to recover it.

In a matter of hours, a devastating fire tore through the family house, leaving little more than ashes and rubble behind. The walls that once held family photos, children’s height markings, and holiday decorations were consumed by flames. Bedrooms that once felt safe and warm were reduced to smoke and debris. Irreplaceable keepsake, such as childhood drawings, heirlooms passed down through generations, wedding albums, and treasured mementos; all taken and vanished in the blaze.

For the family, this wasn’t just property damage. It was the loss of their children’s childhood home. It was the loss of the kitchen where birthdays were celebrated, the living room where stories were shared, and the bedrooms that held dreams for the future.

In a single day, their sense of security was shaken. The place where they gathered for holidays, where they weathered life’s ups and downs together, is now only but a memory.

Yet even through the charred remains and the ashes, there is resilience..!!

The family is determined to rebuild — not just the structure, but the feeling of home. While memories can never be replaced, the hope of creating new ones remains strong. With support from compassionate friends, neighbours, and community members, they can begin again.

This fundraiser is about more than rebuilding walls. It is about restoring stability, comfort, and hope for a family who lost nearly everything (other than lives) to the flames.

From mere ashes, they will rise stronger, together and hopefully with the support of others around them.

Jana & Petr (Simon's wife's parents) whose life-long home was destroyed; due to their very old-school morals and values, were initially against the idea of the offer to create a fundraiser to support them, but after much deliberation have conceded.

I would dearly ask you to take a moment to empathise such an awful situation and ask for your willingness to contribute to helping them fund the rebuild of their home.

There is of course no given expectations, but I can whole-heartedly assure you that every penny raised can and will make a huge difference to rebuilding their future.
