Rainbow Acres Community Farm is a newly built farm outside of cottage grove in rural lane county that was hit HARD by the recent horrifying 2024 ice storm and they need the community’s help to rebuild.
This community farm exists for a community benefit - utilizing regenerative practices to grow food, raise farm animals, and work on land restoration.
They are still without power a month after the first storm and living in their home without it. Luckily a borrowed generator works their well so their farm animals and all of the people who live there have access to water.
Lydia, one of the farm owners said, “The fact this storm hit so close after we just moved here and putting everything into trying to get the farm rolling hit extra hard.”
They had just moved here in July 2023and began setting up the farm. They don’t technically have a “livable house” yet, so they have not been able to find an insurance policy that will cover them yet. They have been working on trying to figure repairs and insurance out in conjunction with farm start up/operations but because they are in the early process of getting set up here they were not able to secure insurance before the storm hit. So all of the costs are falling on them personally.
One of those costs includes a $6k price tag of electrical work on their system before power can be restored!
A full list of their needs:
$7,000 fixing driveway and replacing gravel
$6,000 electrical
$10,000 tree clean up
$600-$1,000 generator for well
$500 fencing replacement
$6,000 lost wages from their csa that had to be cancelled because of the storm
Please help this important community resource get back on its feet after a very difficult time.
