On what began as an ordinary day, everyone had left for work or school, my brother Donnie Lentzner and his family faced a tragedy that no farm family should ever endure. A massive barn fire swept through their property at Winter Spring Farm in Taneytown, Maryland, leaving behind heartbreaking loss and destruction. We are incredibly grateful that no horses were harmed. However, the fire claimed the barn, many of their small animals and destroyed all of Donnie & Kory’s Clydesdale show equipment, including their carriages, harnesses, tack, and trailer. For someone who has devoted their lives to showing Clydesdales this loss is devastating. Donnie & Kory have spent years showing at local fairs, state fairs, and community events, where they are known for their dedication and love for the breed.
This tragedy reaches beyond Donnie & Kory. Their 12-year-old son, Avery, who had recently begun showing, and proudly following in their footsteps, lost all of his equipment too. The loss has also been very painful for their 4-year-old daughter, Autumn who lost her beloved goats, pig, and chicks, animals she & Kory cared for every day. Donnie has spent his entire life working in the horse industry as a farrier, helping others care for their animals while building a life for his own family. He had just purchased the farm this past spring, making this setback even more difficult.
We are asking for help as they begin the long and emotional process of rebuilding, replacing essential equipment, caring for the animals they still have, and restoring the barn that was central to their livelihood. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would also be a tremendous help.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support during this unimaginable time for the Lentzner family.
