My family’s hometown—Lennox Bigwoods, a small rural agricultural community in the mountains of Westmoreland, Jamaica—was in the direct path of Hurricane Melissa, a catastrophic Category 5 storm that left behind unimaginable destruction. My family has lived and cultivated the land in Lennox Bigwoods for over three generations.
There isn’t a single home or family that hasn’t suffered great loss. Roofs are gone, homes and farms are destroyed, livestock and crops have been wiped out. Our home has been reduced to rubble, nothing was saved, not even the trees.
While the government is working tirelessly to support affected citizens, the needs across the island are overwhelming, and it may take years for assistance to reach our remote community. That’s why we are turning to our extended family and friends for help.
Speaking with loved ones and neighbors, the greatest needs right now are:
• Building materials and tools for rebuilding homes and farms
• Volunteers or labor assistance for cleanup and reconstruction
• Daily essentials such as food, hygiene supplies, clothing, tents, and tarps
My family and I are raising funds to:
• Send barrels of food, hygiene items, and clothing immediately
• Purchase and ship building materials, generators, and tools by January 2026, as road access is currently limited
Every contribution—no matter the size—will make a tangible difference in helping our families return to their land, rebuild their homes, and restore hope in this community.
Your generosity, prayers, and willingness to share this message mean more than words can express.
