Rebuild the Willowdale Farms Greenhouse — Help Us Grow Again

A powerful thunderstorm storm swept through Wilmington, NC this week and tore the entire cover off the large greenhouse at Willowdale Farms—our vital hub for growing and nurturing transplants that feed our community. Winds ripped the plastic cover from its frame, leaving our seedlings and young plants exposed and our growing efforts on pause.

At Willowdale Farms, we don’t just grow food—we grow hope. As part of the nonprofit Community Enrichment Initiatives, our 2-acre urban farm and network of community gardens are a lifeline for families experiencing food insecurity in our city. We grow fresh vegetables and seedlings to share with neighbors, schools, and community organizations. We also give transplants to local residents so they can grow food at home—empowering self-reliance and healthier eating.

Our greenhouse is the heart of it all. Without it, our ability to start plants from seed and distribute them to the community is severely limited.

We urgently need to raise funds to replace the greenhouse cover and reinforce its front and rear entrances so it can better withstand future storms. This repair isn’t just about fixing a structure—it’s about protecting the future of food justice in Wilmington.
