Rebuild the Cherry Home Shores Playground
Donation protected
We re raising money to help rebuild the playground and equipment at the CHA Clubhouse. Much of the old equipment was removed last year after a safety inspection revealed how dangerous it was.
At the last board meeting, $5000 was approved for this year, and an additional $5000 per year will be suggested for next year’s annual budget. A separate bank account has been opened to handle the funds.
Initial research resulted in 2 bids for modest pieces of commercial equipment that include slides and climbing areas, installed and surrounded by appropriate safety areas filled with wood chips. The bids ranged from $20,000 to $35,000. With our proposed funding levels, it would be 4 to 5 years before the equipment could be purchased.
Fortunately, a very substantial donation was proposed by Tanya Roberts and her husband Michael. They are currently building a new home in Cherry Home Shores and wish to contribute to the new playground in memory of their son, Colton. Colton grew up here in the summer, learned how to sail at the Northport Sailing School, and spent time every day on our playground equipment. They have offered a very generous $5000 initial donation and will make an additional $5000 for matching donations from others, dollar for dollar. This heartfelt contribution, combined with the matching dollars, could mean that a structure could be installed as early as next summer!
And that's where you come in! We welcome your donations in any amount to help fund this rebuilding. Please note that while Cherry Home Shores Association is a non-profit corporation, it's not a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and your donations will not be tax deductible.
Thanks to all who helped us raise the initial $5,000 we needed to get matching funds. We will be ordering and installing the first pieces of equipment this summer. (pictured on this site)
We hope to add additional equipment in the next summer or two by raising an additional $5,000, so we have upped the goal to $10,000 and hope you will help us reach it.
