Greetings! My name is Micheal Grizzle, Chief of the Trelawny Town-Flagstaff Maroons in Cockpit Country, St. James, Jamaica, who is seeking to assist my community in the aftermath of this devastating hurricane Melissa. I am from this community and have many relatives there but currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia. Over the years, I have worked with this community by training residents in various areas and establishing a heritage tourism venture there in the community (Google Michael Grizzle Jamaica).
Many residents are without food, shelter, or basic supplies. In this regard, I am appealing for assistance to alleviate their daily lives.
As this is a predominantly farming community, we will also seek to use a percentage of any funds to help the farmers with fertilizers to reestablish their small farms, as all farms are decimated.
There are approximately 1,500 residents that reside in the community in approximately 200 homes with an average of 7 per household. Any funds generated will be used to purchase 300 cases of potable water, 3,000 lbs of rice, 600 blankets, and 100 canvas sheets to temporarily provide some cover on homes that have lost their roofs), solar lights, solar phone charging stations, children supplies and elderly medication
We are continuing to garner support from residents in the diaspora as well.
