In the early morning hours of February 14th, James Harlow woke up to a loud popping noise. Rushing out of his room, only to be faced with flames, blocking him from entering the rest of his home.
In just his night pants and a t-shirt, he rushes out the back door, cutting his foot in the process, and calls 9-1-1. He run’s back to the door in which he exited to call for his dogs, his shirt singeing from the impending fire. Silence. No dogs coming running.
Firefighters and police arrive, when suddenly the other occupant of the house, a young gentleman that Jim had taken in to help, pulls a gun and shoots an officer.
The officer was rushed to the hospital while the gentleman was apprehended.
In the meantime, Jim sat in the back of a police cruiser, cold, with nothing to do but watch his home burn. He would later learn his three dogs and three cats did not survive the fire.
He lost his home. The home that his own mother had gifted him when she passed many years ago.
A home that held family gatherings and birthday parties for his grandkids.
What should have been a day of love, turned into a day of sadness and tragedy.
This is where Jim needs your help.
Unfortunately, that home was not covered under homeowner’s insurance. We are raising money to help him clean out the debris and rebuild.
We will need many hands to help with the process of cleaning and building as well, but that will come later on.
