Jamaica Needs Us: Hurricane Melissa Recovery Fund

Jamaica, our island home is devastated. Hurricane Melissa tore through the small island of Jamaica on October 28, leaving our homes destroyed, families displaced, and entire communities struggling to recover.

As Jamaicans living in the United States and Canada, we have come together to coordinate relief efforts for the people and places we still call home. We aim to provide support for some of the most severely affected places like Montego Bay, St. James and Negril, Westmoreland, which are beloved by many at home and abroad. Though miles away, our hearts remain in Jamaica — in the cities where we were born, the neighborhoods that raised us, and the schools that shaped who we are.

We are raising funds to provide immediate relief and long-term recovery — food, clean water, building materials, school supplies, and safe shelter for those hardest hit. Every dollar will go directly towards helping families rebuild their lives and restoring hope across the island.

This is more than a fundraiser. It’s a promise to stand with our people — to remind them that they are not alone and that their extended family abroad is mobilizing in love and solidarity.

NB: Our GoFundMe is organized by Roxy, Sashae, She-Marie, Deidre, Natisha, and Ayoki — a group of Jamaicans living in the US and Canada, raising support for our relatives and friends back home who were affected by the hurricane. She-Marie has already purchased some of the needed items and will reimburse herself and purchase more items once funds arrive. Supplies purchased so far — and those still on the list — include: Food Items such as canned goods, rice, flour etc, Essential Supplies such as soap, wash cloths etc and Building Materials such as generator, zinc (for repairing roofs), boards, blocks and cement (for rebuilding homes) etc. Please continue to check in on the updates section as we will be adding to it frequently.
