My name is Laurel Beattey and my husband, Ric, and I have been coming to San Salvador since the mid-1970s. We own property near Grotto Beach, one of the most used beaches by both visitors and local residents. It is a public beach that has a gazebo for everyone to visit and find shade.
Hurricane Melissa (2025) destroyed the gazebo. It was basically the original structure from the 1970s. It is and has been in constant use for all these years. The effort is underway to remove the debris and rebuild it. It will be a costly endeavor. We plan to use all local materials and labor. Any and all donations will be appreciated and be assured all the funds will go to the renovation of the gazebo and returning it to its glory.
Thank you.
Update: In hiring a local contractor to rebuild the Grotto Beach Gazebo and requesting a detailed proposal, we realized we were very low in our estimation on the cost of this project. There are 3 parts to this project, the first one being completed already.
1. Debris Removal was completed at a cost of $1,000.00
2. Materials: Materials not including concrete have been purchased at a cost of just under $6,000.00. The cement concrete cost is estimated at $3,000.00 more than we expected because we will not be able to use as much of the old foundation as we hoped.
3. The labor cost is estimated at $10,000.00. It was $15,000.00 but the contractor said he would donated his time since it was a community project and a local business man had donated 2 men for the the project both os these reducing the estimated labor cost.
Both #2 and #3 were much more than we originally estimated, thus the change in the project total. I will also post this in the update section with photos of the men working and completing the forms for the pouring of the foundation.
Thank you everyone for your donations. Every dollar helps.
