Hello friends and family!
What am I doing for Spring Break?
Well, I am travelling with a group of medical professionals and students to organize a 3-day clinic in a rural, mountainous region of Panama.
The trip is April 21-29, 2017.
Why?
Everyone deserves medical care.
Many of you know, I began my first year of graduate school at Samuel Merritt University in the Nurse Practitioner's masters program this past Fall. I recently got involved in the International Healthcare Club, which helps provide opportunities for students to engage in international healthcare experiences. The Panama trip happens twice a year with the support of Hands for Global Health.
As students, we set up the clinic and help provide medical services to as many people as we can. Many of the people travel for days to be seen at the clinic and in some cases it's their first time interfacing with a western medical clinician.
I want to touch as many lives in the world as I can. One of the reasons I chose the nursing practitioner path over more familiar streams (to me) such as naturopathic medicine or homeopathy was to engage opportunites like this. I feel fortunate to help and apply the nursing skills I have learned.
I was touched deeply watching the video above from a past trip and hearing the personal stories.
Helping people heal and being of service are two things I value immensly. This opportunity remides me of my time in India when I volunteered at a clinic for six weeks helping an underserved community near Varanassi. I am so grateful for clinics that serve these communites.
What can you do?
A student budget is a small budget.
I need your help to make this trip possible!
I would love your financial support to help pay my trip expenses.
This includes: airfaire, food, lodging, and supplies.
Any money I raise above my own cost's will go towards the trip fund to buy medical supplies. My individual trip costs do not cover supplies and medications for the clinic.
