I am Rebecca Alcantara's sister-in-law and am raising money to support her family: her loving husband Omar and energetic 5-year-old daughter Logan. This GoFundMe will bring normalcy to her family with Logan's first year of school, and lay a solid foundation for a road to recovery and remission.

In September, while doing a self-examination, Rebecca found a lump in her breast. After a mammogram and subsequent biopsy, a breast cancer diagnosis was confirmed. While making plans for surgery and future recovery, Rebecca's back pain was increasing and all the treatments were not working. Rebecca finally agreed with Omar and they went to the Emergency Room where, after an MRI, the doctor said that her spine had several tumors. Her breast cancer had metastasized and now the Alcantara family was facing a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

Plans moved quickly and on October 2nd, early in the morning, Rebecca was wheeled into surgery for lumbar spinal decompression on L2-L5. The doctors were able to remove several tumors and lesions on Rebecca's spine. The next step is radiation on the thoracic spine, lumbar, and breasts. The oncologist is optimistic that Rebecca will be able to take oral chemotherapy; this is a milder form of the medicine.

News is positive after surgery; however, the road to recovery and remission has many steps ahead. Rebecca, the Alcantara and Cheslar families will need thoughts, vibes, prayers, and support from their community.
