Supporting Families One Stride at a Time

My name is Liam Jenkins and I am from Dublin, Ireland.

On the 28th of November 2023, I will be attempting the Three Peaks Egypt challenge in under 12 hours. This extraordinary hike is a 40km loop route that has an ascent and descent of 2500m, summiting 3 of the highest peaks in Egypt.

Crosscare focuses on helping people when they need it most or can’t find support elsewhere. Crosscare runs Homeless Services, Food Poverty Services, Youth Services, and support for Refugees, Migrants and Emigrants. Their Youth programme is what initially drew my attention to raising money for this organisation. I studied for three years doing the Outdoor Adventure Management course at Coláiste Dhúlaigh, and during my time there, I met many people including some of my instructors, who had worked with Crosscare for years. One of their projects that caught my attention was their Youth Diversion Project. YDPs are community-based and supported youth development projects that seek to divert young people from becoming involved or further involved in anti-social or criminal behavior. One way they do this is by taking these youths on outdoor excursions such as kayaking, hiking, and coasteering. I believe that it is projects like these, that make the outdoor sports community so special.

In a few weeks, Crosscare will be launching its Christmas Food Poverty Appeal. This appeal will help provide food to families in need this winter season and every donation will help to support them.
