Rathmines - Stop Garland House Demolition & Aprts
Doação protegida
Help those who are putting their own funds into helping your neighbourhood.
We need your help to stop the demolition of a local landmark and preserve our community for the future. Garland House, situated in Rathmines Park, has been part of our neighborhood for over 100 years.
A recently lodged planning application proposes the demolition of the building and the construction of 40 apartments and provision for 39 car spaces in a mix of four and five storey levels over basement*.
Needless to say, a development of this scale would have a significant impact on the locality. For the residents of Rathmines Park, it will have the effect of doubling the population of the area and doubling the traffic throughput through the already compromised avenue access . While we have yet to have sight of the specific plans, it goes without saying that any large-scale development in the area will cause serious issues for the wider community. York Avenue and York Road will be particularly affected in terms of light and overlooking. But it is the effect upon our tight-knit neighbourhood, the sense of community and how the peaceful, safe and amicable character of the Park and environs will become unrecognisible, that we most care about.
The past fifteen months has shown us what is of most value in this corner of Rathmines. We value community, safety from traffic for our children and elderly, and we care for our local heritage. This is why a group of residents is financing the cost of contracting a Planning Consultant to advise us on the best approach to oppose this planning application from an opportunistic developer.
This financial investment is not insignificant for us but we are happy to do so and many people will benefit. Please do your bit, make a donation, become part of the movement to keep something special to be enjoyed by others and help safeguard the neighbourhood from over-development. Garland House is not a protected structure although it is a building of significant historical merit
We will work together to mount a robust objection to this proposed development. The last day to submit observations to Dublin City Council is 24th May, 2021 and, as such, time is of the essence.
As a group we believe in strength in numbers and it is our hope that as many individual objections as possible will be submitted. We would strongly encourage you to add your voice to ours by submitting your own onjection before 24th May, 2021.
The sole purpose of this fundraiser is to cover the costs of the planning consultant and any associated costs of filing the objections. There is no gain in this for those involved and any excess on top of the funding objective will be passed to a local charity.
*The proposed development consists of:-
“Planning permission for : demolition of existing buildings and the construction of 40 apartments (13 x 1 bed units, 22 x 2 bed units & 5 x 3 bed units all with required balconies) in a single building served by 2 independent entrances. The building is 4 and 5 storeys in height over basement accessed by a single ramp of Rathmines Park. Basement contains 39 car spaces, 40 cycle spaces, bin stores, storage and plant. Application also includes 1 disabled car space, off street in the building forecourt, landscaping throughout and all associated building services and works.”
