Support Ras Tata Kongo – A Reggae Pioneer in Need
Ras Tata Kongo is more than just a name; he is a symbol of resilience, cultural heritage, and the spirit of reggae in Portugal. Since the 1980s, Ras Tata Kongo has dedicated his life to spreading the message of unity, love, and justice through reggae music. His contributions to the movement in Portugal are immeasurable. He is a pioneer who introduced VJing to the country, organized iconic reggae events at Teatro da Comuna and Voz d’Operário, and enriched the reggae community with rare and precious vinyl records brought from the UK.
As the founder of Mbaza Kongo, a cultural and community hub in Barreiro co-created with Ras Damula, Ras Tata Kongo fostered a space that was more than just a venue—it was a beacon of cultural resistance and unity. Through his work with Fankambareggae and countless other projects, he has connected generations, built bridges between cultures, and kept the reggae flame alive in Lisbon and beyond.
But today, Ras Tata Kongo faces heartbreaking challenges. After serious health issues and the demolition of Mbaza Kongo, the cultural space he held so dear, Ras Tata Kongo is now living in a caravan, in extremely precarious conditions, while awaiting housing assistance.
The reggae community has always been about solidarity and standing together in times of need. Now is the time to give back to someone who has given so much.

This event will take place at the Voz d’Operário ballroom in Lisbon, from 6:00 PM to 4:40 AM. All proceeds from this special night of music and unity will also go to Ras Tata Kongo.
Why It Matters
