Rare Liver Disease: Please Help Save Devin's Life

Hi, My name is Shirley Simmons and I have set up this fundraiser for a wonderful long time friend and employee who is 31 with a wife, son and a new baby girl. Please read what the family has written on his behalf and kindly consider donating to save his life.

PLEASE HELP OUR SON

On April 17, 2023, our son Devin McKnight was

diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). It is a chronic

liver disease and auto immune disease in which the bile ducts inside

and outside the liver become inflamed and scarred, and

eventually narrowed or blocked. When this happens, bile builds

up in the liver and causes further liver damage. It can

eventually lead to liver failure, repeated infections,

and tumors of the bile duct or liver. A liver transplant

is the only known cure for advanced primary sclerosing

cholangitis, but the disease may recur in the transplanted

liver in a small number of patients. We originally thought

the transplant was several years out and he would have time

to control the progression of the disease with diet and medication.

He would have time to watch his children grow up and become

young adults.

As the family was struggling with this horrific diagnosis,

Devin was about to turn 31 years old and they were

anxiously awaiting the birth of their second child,

a little girl, who was born in June 2023.

At his last appointment with the transplant surgeon,

it was revealed that he would probably need a transplant

within the next 2-3 years. Since his disease is very

unpredictable the timeline keeps moving up. Anyone

that might be willing to help can do so in one of these ways.

He will be looking for a live donor and if you are

Due to the financial strain that comes with a serious life-threatening

disease and because some expenses will not be covered by insurance.

We would also like to make sure that travel expenses to and from

Salt Lake City for Devin and the live donor are taken care of.
