Hi my name is Heidi Haigh and I am a member of the Bremner Legend Team as a Leeds United fan
‘Side Before Self Every Time’ & ‘Every Time Leeds Concede a Goal, I Feel Like I’ve Been Stabbed in the Heart’
Billy Bremner is a legend to Leeds United fans of all ages & these famous quotes sum up his passion for our club & the game he loved so much. Billy is rightly celebrated through his statue at our beloved Elland Road & a group of supporters now known as The Bremner Legend Team, have been working for several years to mirror this tribute on his home estate of Raploch in Stirling.
The Scottish Football Supporters Association, in partnership with Leeds United Supporters Groups, Raploch Community Council, University of Stirling, Stirling Community Enterprise, Tartan Army Magazine and Stirling Council have been asked to lead a project to ensure a statue is commissioned honouring the late Billy Bremner in the town he grew up.
Billy Bremner was an inspirational player for both Leeds United and Scotland, who epitomised what being Leeds was all about. Billy was voted as number one in the official “100 greatest Leeds players list” and he also captained Scotland throughout their 1974 World Cup Campaign, where he was unfortunate not to score against Brazil in Frankfurt.
Leeds United fans have already started making trips to Scotland to see the blue plaque unveiled by Eddie Gray and the late Jimmy Bone, so to have a statue there too will see a focal point for fans to meet up, the same as at Elland Road.
We need to raise a total of £86,000 so that our chosen artist Kenny Hunter would be able to start building the statue. Fundraising events have been and are taking place to reach this figure but there is still a long way to go. If every Leeds United and/or Scotland fan could donate something however big or small, it would enable us to reach the total sooner rather than later, so please help us achieve this dream. – Marching on Together!
