Assalamu Alaikum,
My name is Fahdi Alew, a third-year student at Northeastern University currently in Kenya for my co-op until June, including during Ramadan. While I stay with my family in Nairobi, most of my co-op work takes place in Baringo County, about seven hours away.
A couple of years ago, Sara Shaikh, current ISNU co-president, raised funds for a mosque in Kampi Samaki, helping with renovations and providing Qurans and other necessities. Kampi Samaki is about an hour from my work site in Chemolingot, where I’ve been visiting and praying at the local mosque daily.

Recently, Sara informed me that the Kampi Samaki mosque is seeking Ramadan Iftar support. This inspired me to raise funds not only for them but also for the mosque in Chemolingot, where I’ve connected with the Imam, Abdirahman, and the community. My main idea was to provide food support in these areas, since food insecurity is a major issue in these more remote regions of Kenya. During these discussions, I also met Hassan from Marigat, a nearby town where efforts are underway to establish a new mosque in the town center.

Marigat currently has two mosques—one on the outskirts, established over 40 years ago, and another in the center made of iron sheets. Due to travel difficulties, the community is raising funds to build a proper mosque in the town center. They have purchased the land but need support to clear it and begin construction.

So, I'm hoping to gather support to assist all four of these mosques this Ramadan.
The priority for this fundraiser is to provide bulk food supplies for Iftar and Suhoor, easing the burden of food insecurity in these communities. Any remaining funds will support the construction of a new mosque in Marigat, where land has been secured but further assistance is needed to begin building. Giving during Ramadan is an act of sadaqah, bringing immense reward and blessings. No matter the amount, your donation will help provide relief and a lasting impact on these communities.

JazakAllah Khair,
Fahdi Alew
