Ralph & Sabra Fermin Assistance

We would have never thought in a million years we would be writing these words, asking for this help and most of all; PRAYERS.

On Saturday, March 26, 2022 Ralph and Sabra Fermin were involved in a horrific burn accident at their campsite on Hunting Island State Park. The very loud boom sound shook the campground and caused a fire. Ralph jumped into action when he saw his wife & best friend, Sabra on fire from head to toe, screaming.  Ralph grabbed Sabra and barreled through the camper door to the ground below to cover her to stop the fire.

Thankfully, other campers jumped into assist, a few with medical background, one an EMT (FF) and another a nurse to sustain their lives until fire & EMS could arrive.  A fellow camper called Morgan (their only child) and told her about the accident. Sabra and Ralph both were able to tell Morgan they loved her thanks to the Angel Samaritan.  Morgan has not heard her mothers voice since. Sabra was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital then quickly air lifted to MUSC. Ralph was taken  to Beaufort Memorial Hospital then to MUSC by ambulance.

Ralph has second degree burns to 14% of his body and remains on the burn unit. Sabra is in ICU with second and third degree burns to 41% of her body.

Ralph and Sabra have both begun procedures and surgeries of many ahead.  Ralph will have an earlier discharge date and has advised us he does not want to leave Charleston without Sabra. Morgan and Rob are traveling daily to Charleston from Beaufort to be with her parents and their 8 week old micro preemie.   Yes!  Their only child, Morgan and her husband also have a micro-preemie at the Children's Hospital at MUSC.  I truly don't know how much more my niece and poor sister and Ralph can take.

Funds.
While they are very fortune to have Ralph’s medical insurance as a veteran; they are both out of work with no return date in sight.  If you feel inspired to help by donating anything; we would be forever grateful. Any donations will be used to support gas, accommodations, expenses since out of work, food on the run, and acts of kindness for others, especially for the MUSC medical teams providing for this family.

Background. Sabra and Ralph were raised in Beaufort, SC where they still call home. Ralph is a retired, decorated Veteran in the USMC. While Ralph's awards list is long; he can also add a new one. He literally saved his wife and best friends life. They met just out of high school and have been together ever since. They are best friends who enjoyed camping, traveling and time with their daughter, Morgan, her husband Rob, grandchildren. Emersyn, 2 and their new grandson Elliott; who is currently, also at MUSC Children's hospital as he was born at 27 weeks as a micro preemie.

We are so thankful for the other campers, Lady's Island Fire Department, Beaufort County Sheriffs office and the EMS teams and for the Burn team at MUSC.
