On behalf of the Bercier family, I am sharing a personal life update with the hopes that our great, tight-knit industry and community will come alongside to help carry them through this unexpected and challenging chapter of their lives.
Their Story - Angela’s Diagnosis
In November, Dale’s wife and best friend, Angela, was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer. She was found with multiple tumors across different organs, and as of the beginning of the new year, she has already undergone several radiation treatments. When they traveled out-of-state to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for a second opinion, the doctors recommended Angie do metronomic chemo with two drugs at a low dose every week, along with immunotherapy every three weeks instead of the “old school chemo” treatment at maximum tolerated doses.
With that said, the treatments take a huge toll on Angie’s body, so they are currently working hard to put weight on her so that she may continue her recommended treatment plan. Ideally, Angie would be admitted to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for care and they therefore wouldn’t have to continue driving 100 miles to the closest hospital facility in Minot, ND for daily treatment and care. During this time, Dale has taken off from work to be with and fully care for Angie. It’s not even a question to him, but we all can imagine how hard it is to provide in all the ways necessary during a hardship like this.
If you’ve worked with Dale, you know he is hardworking, high-energy, analytical, and most importantly, he’s caring and he always strives to do the right thing– all wrapped in a northern accent. He’s a true oilfield character and I have no doubt he’s bringing his best qualities and efforts to ensuring Angie’s comfort and care. I haven’t yet had the privilege of meeting Angie, but from what Dale has told me more than once, she’s a complete superstar. Both Dale and Angie deserve our outpouring of love and support to let them know they are not shouldering this alone.
The Financial Challenge
The financial reality of a stage 4 diagnosis is daunting. Since there is no cure– this is all palliative care to extend her life and to make her time with loved ones more comfortable. We have set a goal of $65k to build a safety net for the Bercier family. Your support will go directly toward:
- Cost of Living: Offsetting the loss of Dale’s income to ensure the mortgage, utilities, and household needs are met
- Travel: Providing a means for transportation and lodging for in and out-of-state care
- Extensive Medical Expenses: Covering high deductibles, chemotherapy, physical therapy, and the costs of surgery and radiation
