On this past Tuesday (June 3rd), my 65-year-old mom fell while walking her dog and suffered a serious wrist fracture. After a trip to the ER and follow-up imaging, we learned that she will need surgery (open reduction internal fixation) to stabilize her right wrist. Her surgery is scheduled for Monday (June 9th).

My mom has always been someone who gives selflessly to others. She still stays active in her community by working as a substitute teacher and helping those around her however she can. Like many people her age, she’s navigating the challenges of healthcare and limited income without the cushion of a full retirement plan. Unfortunately, this injury and the surgery it requires will come with medical expenses that are difficult to manage on her own.

While we don’t yet know the full cost of her surgery, out-of-pocket expenses for procedures like this (even with insurance) can easily reach $7,000 or more - including the operation, follow-ups, imaging, and medications. This doesn’t even include lost income while she recovers. We’re hoping to raise $7,500 to help ease this unexpected financial blow.
