I’m reaching out on behalf of Kurtis Bishop and Andrea Stinson. You may know them through his wonderful son, Mathias, or their extended family, including Liz and Bob Stefan, Treasure and Dennis Stinson, Rose Heys, and Margot Rivers.
Right now, they are facing a significant medical emergency. On Tuesday, while at work, Kurtis experienced chest pain and dangerously high blood pressure. Andrea immediately took him to the nearest hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered a heart attack. Further tests revealed severe blockages in several vessels (70-90%).
The medical team quickly determined that Kurtis needed open-heart surgery to address the blockages. He underwent a triple bypass procedure using veins and arteries from his leg. His recovery will take time—an estimated six weeks before he can begin easing back into work and 3-6 months for full recovery.
Andrea, who is a teacher currently on winter break, will be the household's sole income earner for the time being. In addition to medical expenses and the challenges of a reduced income, they’ve been navigating other hurdles. Their car recently broke down, leaving them with just one vehicle, which may not be enough once Kurtis begins returning to work. They also became first-time homeowners in June, which has added financial pressure.
Any support—whether through donations, sharing their story, or kind words—would mean the world to them during this challenging time. Thank you so much for your generosity and care. Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful holiday season!
