On Christmas Eve 2017, Jordan and Paige received an early Christmas gift by learning they were expecting. Everything was going great and the baby was growing as expected until they went to their 19-week gender reveal ultra sound on April 10, 2018. It was at this appointment that they learned something was potentially wrong with their baby boy. On April 12, 2018, they returned to the doctor and the doctor informed them that, in fact, something serious was wrong and that is when they were told about the possibility of their baby boy having Trisomy 13. On April 17, 2018, Jordan and Paige had an appointment scheduled with their High-Risk OB doctor, at this appointment, they did an ultra sound which lasted about 2 hours that included a procedure called amniocentesis, which is the sampling of amniotic fluid using a hollow needle inserted into the uterus, to screen for developmental abnormalities in a fetus. Three days later, Jordan and Paige received a call from their OB doctor and they confirmed that their baby has Trisomy 13 disorder.
Trisomy 13 is extremely rare of a chromosome disorder. Trisomy 13 is a type of chromosome disorder characterized by having 3 copies of chromosome 13 in the cells of the body, instead of the usual 2 copies. In some affected people, only a portion of cells contains the extra chromosome 13 (called mosaic trisomy 13), whereas other cells contain the normal chromosome pair. Trisomy 13 causes severe intellectual disability and many physical abnormalities, such as congenital heart defects; brain or spinal cord abnormalities; very small or poorly developed eyes, extra fingers or toes; cleft lip with or without cleft palate; and weak muscle tone. Most cases are not inherited and result from a random error during the formation of eggs or sperm in healthy parents. Due to various life-threatening medical problems, many infants with Trisomy 13 do not survive past the first days or weeks of life.
In collaboration with community partners, Tom’s Papa Dino’s Pizza is hosting a benefit for Jordan and Paige Sullivan. The event will take place at Tom’s Papa Dino’s, 228 Main St. Florence KY 41042 on July 14th, 2018 and will help raise funds to help Jordan and Paige through these difficult times. All proceeds will be given directly to Jordan and Paige Sullivan for the medical bills, funeral costs, and time needed off work as they go through this tough time. We would appreciate your love and support as they go through this difficult time. This is for a GREAT cause for two AMAZING people, so please stop by and help us achieve our goal!!
