Hello, my name is Jason Berry. Back in April, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and began care and treatments for that diagnosis. On June 23rd, he was taken to the hospital in Easton, MD by ambulance for confusion, dizziness, and orbs in his direct vision that were originally diagnosed as ocular migraines. They performed a brain scan at this time and discovered he had a large mass and five smaller masses on his brain causing the pressure, confusion, and pain he was experiencing. These masses also proved to be stage 4 cancer. They promptly scheduled a surgery for him to be performed on July 8th.

On July 8th, he had the brain surgery procedure in an attempt to remove the larger mass, and they would schedule radiation treatments for the smaller ones thereafter. They could only remove less than half of the large mass safely without additional risks.

On July 21st, he had an appointment to have his 42 staples removed from his head, which seemed to go well. A series of 10 radiation treatments began the next day on July 22nd.

His condition unfortunately declined rapidly even with the treatments, and before his last treatment could be completed, he was rushed to the hospital and admitted to the ICU unit at the University of MD Hospital of Easton, MD.

After many tests, labs, and treatments there, it was discovered that he had contracted Cryptococcal Meningitis, which is fatal on its own. There is nothing that can be done as we face this three-headed dragon. They are all critical and fatal individually and obviously much worse as a trio. We have opted to bring him home on partial Hospice care in hopes that he will realize he is in his happy place at home and pass in peace, love, and in the comfort of my mom, family, and friends.

My mother and father live on Social Security, which is a very limited income. They also did not hold life insurance. Even with their limited income, they have always been supportive of others, organizations, and fundraising efforts of others. The medical bills, looming funeral expenses, and memorial services are and will be overwhelming. I have personally done all I can, and I have currently put my occupation on hold to assist with his short-term care and to help with the planning and logistics of my dad's afterlife impact on my mother.

He was a great dad, grandfather, husband, brother, son, and friend to many. He is a Veteran and served in the United States Navy as well as a Corrections officer of Baltimore City. He loved people, music, fishing, and golfing.
