As we enter the blessed month of Ramadan, a time of giving and mercy, we have an opportunity to help a man in desperate need—a family friend named Hussein Megdadi. Hussein is battling cancer while also working tirelessly to provide for his sick daughter. He sells Islamic books and prayer mats from a cart to cover both of their medical expenses, rent, and daily necessities.

Now, Hussein is facing urgent financial strain:

His daughter’s medical bills are due soon.

His rent must be paid to keep a roof over their heads.

He has an upcoming doctor consultation to finalize his surgery dates.

Despite his own illness, Hussein remains the sole breadwinner of his household. But he cannot fight this battle alone. As a community, we have the power to ease his hardship and fulfill the prophetic call to charity:

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that sprouts seven ears; in every ear, there are a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies for whom He wills.” (Qur’an 2:261)

These funds will make it possible for him to support his medical expenses, his rent, and provide more care for his daughter.
